We published Teach Like a PIRATE from a  laptop at the kitchen table over 6 years ago in August/September of 2012…and what an amazing and wild ride it has been.

We have sold over 350,000 copies of the book and it is now translated into Spanish, Korean, 2 forms of Chinese, and Russian. I am completely honored and overwhelmed with gratitude for the support educators have shown for the #tlap message. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ever since it first came out, people have asked me to record the audiobook. For 6 years, I have resisted. I felt the book had somehow captured lightning in a bottle and I didn’t want to mess with it. In a similar fashion, I resisted writing the book in the first place for almost 6 years because I thought too much of the intensity of a live performance of #tlap would be lost on the written page. I did my best! I had similar worries about the audiobook but decided it was time to tackle the challenge.

This wasn’t easy! In November, I headed into the studio for two days to read the entire book. I had to sit at a microphone in a soundproof booth almost completely stationary to avoid the noise of clothes moving, etc…and if you know me as a presenter, it was torture! The microphones are so sensitive that at one point we had to record a few sections over because my stomach was growling too loud!! But, I really focused on bringing my energy into this project and I am proud of the final result.
