Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity,

and Transform Your Life as an Educator

DTT_Front-CoverWe couldn’t possibly be more excited to share with you the latest release from Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc.

Superstar teacher, prolific blogger, and professional development speaker extraordinaire Matt Miller has written an educational manifesto called Ditch That Textbook: Free Your Teaching and Revolutionize Your Classroom and it is going to rock your socks!

Don’t worry…it isn’t anti-book! It is, however, anti boring students to tears and anti stifling student voice, choice, and creativity. It is about ditching outdated curriculum delivery methods, embracing all of the amazing new digital tools at our disposal, and transforming our classrooms into the kinds of places where kids flourish and they are on fire about their learning.

He starts the book with a highly convincing sales pitch about why change is needed in today’s schools and how to overcome well-engrained mindsets that might be holding some teachers back. He then proceeds to masterfully demonstrate with example after example of how to reach and teach this current generation of students who are smack dab in the middle of the Digital Revolution.

There are no pipe dreams here! Matt is a practicing classroom teacher who stands in front of a classroom full of students all day every day from Monday through Friday. Was Matt always an innovative teacher on the cutting-edge of instructional practices and tech integration? No! That is what makes his pitch so persuasive! He is a humble, down-to-earth, REAL teacher who is sharing his personal story of how these ideas changed his life and the lives of his students. His background in journalism, his brilliant story-telling ability, and his willingness to open up and honestly reflect on his journey makes this a fun and eminently readable book.

If you enjoyed the ideas in Teach Like a PIRATE, you should know that Matt has even taken these ideas from Ditch That Textbook and created a whole mash-up workshop called The Digital Pirate. In fact, one of the many QR codes in the book links directly to a free e-book he has created where he takes 20 of my hooks from #tlap and shows how to use free tech tools to do them! This book isn’t branded with a “pirate” title, but it is pirate-worthy from start to finish. You’re going to love it.
