Teachers all over the world have found inspiration classroom MAGIC from the hooks in Teach Like a PIRATE.
The hooks from the book are a treasure chest of great ideas. But the REAL pirate booty is in seeing how all sorts of teachers are using them — and stealing (I mean, adapting!) their ideas for our own classrooms! (We can steal, right? We ARE pirates after all!)
A fantastic place for “pillaging” for ideas is the #tlap Twitter chat. (Yes, #tlap = Teach Like a PIRATE.) Every Monday at 9 p.m. Eastern / 8 p.m. Central / 7 p.m. Mountain / 6 p.m. Pacific, the TLAP community gathers on Twitter to live chat about the topic of the day.
If you’ve never done a #tlap chat before, know this — it’s the BEST place to get LOTS of pirate teaching ideas in one quick sitting.
Just recently, the chat was led by Kim Snodgrass as an idea share — how do YOU use the hooks in class to engage students?
The response was overwhelming.
Hundreds of ideas were offered during the hourlong chat.
Want to catch up? Here’s a curated list of some of the best ideas shared in that chat.
(Want to know how to make one of these curated lists of tweets? Here’s a blog post with step-by-step instructions and a tutorial video!)
Be sure to join the next #tlap chat on Monday evenings. We’ll see you there, matey! (Dave here! Hey…Matt runs an incredible 30 minute chat called #DitchBook on Thursday nights at 9CST!!)
