Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity,

and Transform Your Life as an Educator

We are incredibly excited about the work that Shelley Burgess (@burgess_shelley) and Beth Houf (@BethHouf) are doing to design and create a powerful leadership component for the Teach Like a Pirate community. I had the pleasure of waCSwBqxOUwAASPnA.png-largetching them deliver their first Lead Like a PIRATE workshop recently at the AMLE (Association of Middle Level Educators) Conference in Columbus, Ohio. It was a packed room with many turned away at the door. For those who were lucky enough to get in, it was a transformational and eye-opening experience. I couldn’t be happier that they will now be offering this workshop to leadership groups around the world.

A critical component of the #LeadLAP workshop is their development of a powerful and effective way to hold coaching conversations with teachers. They refer to them, in true pirate spirit, as ANCHOR conversations. They have even created a set of weekly leadership challenges that center on the 6 letters of ANCHOR. They are also building a community of pirate leaders in the #LeadLAP hashtag on Twitter. Check in and see how everyone is doing on the challenges and join the conversation!! There is also an optional, “make it if you can”, 30-minute reflective chat on Friday evenings at 7:30 CST to share about the week.

Are the challenges just for administrators? No! Several teachers have been using the ANCHOR conversation framework with their students with great success! Powerful coaching conversations are for everybody!!

Here are the links to the first 3 Challenges:
