2014 has been a wild and amazing ride for Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc. From a crazy August in which I did 21 Teach Like a PIRATE programs across 14 states and took 36 air flights in a single month, to trips to distant locations like Singapore to speak to educators…I feel truly blessed. Every step along the way, I have been grateful for the support of my “crew ” and honored to get a chance to connect with so many of you either face-to-face or online.
To bring the year to a fitting close, I am overjoyed to tell you that we have published a brand new book written just for you. It was a collaborative project with my wife, Shelley Burgess, and has been receiving rave reviews from those who have received an early copy. It is called P is for PIRATE: Inspirational ABC’s for Educators. It’s an 8.5”x 8.5” full color and illustrated book brimming with powerful messages. Don’t let the name or format fool you…this isn’t a kids’ book. It just looks like one! This is a book written for teachers and administrators who want to design schools and lessons that have students running to get into class instead of running to get out. We were proud to once again work with the remarkable Erin Casey on this project. She is our secret weapon. She is the hidden magical touch behind every book we have published from Teach Like a PIRATE to Pure Genius…and now this. Her editing prowess, layout skills, coaching, and advice are always spot-on and we can’t imagine doing a project without her.
The artwork in the book is truly stunning. The beautiful illustrations were created by the talented Genesis Kohler, who took our words and ideas and brought the concepts to life in a way that far exceeded even our own expectations. We can’t wait for you to see them!
